Diving Tenerife
Tenerife is one of the best places to dive in the Canary Islands. Not only do they have the highest mountain in Spain, but intricate volcanic rocks above and below the water which makes the underwater topography amazing. Dive from the boat or the shore to see beautiful underwater flora, shipwrecks, natural caves and swim-throughs.
The marine life has an array of amazing underwater activity. Dive with Turtles, Atlantic rays, Bull rays, Octopus, Moray eels, Rock lobsters, Bream and critically endangered Angel Sharks which are regularly seen around the island. Tenerife is blessed with year-round sunny weather. With a low water temperature of 20°C and a high of 26°C with crystal clear visibility, you can be sure to enjoy your PADI IDC at any time of the year.
The Best Location
Excel SCUBA is based in the beautiful town of Costa Adeje and is a stone’s throw away from Playa de la Pinta beach making it an ideal location for training. The sea temperatures reach up to 28’C and rarely drop below 20’C meaning using a wetsuit is perfect all year round. There are lots of cafes, bars and restaurants all around the area and a vast choice of accommodation from shared apartments to private villas. Excel SCUBA can help you find accommodation perfect for you.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the PADI IDC?
The PADI Instructor Development Course is a course that teaches you how to become a PADI SCUBA Instructor. The course teach you the complete PADI training system and is taught by a PADI Course Director. On successful compilation you will need to a PADI Instructor Exam and then you will be an OPEN Water SCUBA Instructor and able to teach diving anywhere in the world. You need to be a PADI Divemaster or equivalent qualification from another training agency so enroll on the course.
- What is the PADI Instructor Exam?
The PADI Instructor Exam is a 2 day assessment of your teaching skills that you need to pass after successful completion of the PADI Instructor Development Course. The exams consists of confined water and skills evaluations, Written theory and standards exams, classroom teaching presentations and Open Water teaching a Rescue evaluations. Exams are held regularly all around the world.
- Where can I take my PADI IDC?
PADI 5 star Instructor Development Centres and PADI 5 Star Career Development Centres are authorised to teach PADI IDCs and the course itself must be conducted by a PADI Course Director. A list of all centres authorised to teach PADI IDCs can be found on padi.com
- Is the IDC difficult?
It's not easy and neither should it be but how hard it is depends on you and everyone is different. People learn in different ways and I adjust my teaching to suit individuals. I promise I will try my hardest to make you the best instructor you can be.
- How long is your IDC?
My IDC's are 7 days and are planned directly before the local PADI Instructor Exam.
- Why is your IDC 7 days? I see some others are longer?
I have found that 7 days is the right amount of time to learn the IDC, less than this is too quick and longer just puts more pressure on candidates and leads to excess tiredness and stress. Getting the amount of time correct is important and that's why my pass rate is so high.
- Do you guarantee to pass the IDC with you?
No, that is not a promise anyone can make. I do promise to work as hard as possible with each candidate until they are ready. In almost all cases this is in 7 days and you will pass the IDC. However I will not send candidates to the PADI IE if they are not fully prepared mentally and physically. I will be completely honest with you about this.
- What happens if I am not ready for the IE after the IDC?
I will discuss this with you personally and in the rare cases this happens I promise to continue to work with you at another IDC until you are ready and I will continue to do this for as long as it takes at no extra cost.
